Challenge
Project Goals
Create a website that could present the event’s main information while giving the users a taste of what their experience in Brew! Coimbra would feel like, by highlighting each craft beer’s distinctive characteristics.

Design Elements
Color Palette
Client requested that we used Coimbra city’s flag colors of purple, white and yellow as the foundation for the project’s color palette. We used the purple and white from the flag and then adapted the yellow to a more beer-like orange that made the perfect connection to the festival’s theme.
Typography
Open Sans was designed with vertical tension, open shapes and a neutral yet friendly look which made perfect sense for this project: it has been optimized for web and mobile interfaces, and has excellent readability characteristics.

Components
Once we defined the project’s design elements, we created the design system: the set of reusable components that could be assembled together like puzzle pieces to build new, consistent looking pages within the same style.

Grid System
In order to achieve a solid design layout, we used a simple 16 column grid with a 32px gutter. This allowed us to place text, images, and functions in a consistent way throughout the design, for all viewport sizes.

Animations
We animated Hugo Araújo’s awesome beer-themed illustrations to confer some colorful dynamism to the homepage.

Beers
Users can easily navigate and search trough a database of beers available at the festival and see all relevant information: who makes them, where they come from and what flavors they come in. It is also very intuitive to browse the map and use the page’s filters.
